We are as one!

Yep, my friends, me and the boot are becoming one! Geez...I can't imagine being in this thing for another 5 1/2 to 7 1/2 weeks! I have bruises and sore spots from just wearing the silly aircast. Remind me to never ever do this again! This was really dumb!

Well, on another note...I had gained back a couple pounds after losing all that water, which I know is normal. It is just my bodies way of settling down into the routine. I have now lost them again and another pound! That makes it a total of 15 and I know that it has adjusted now and I will wait for my next weigh in. It will be very slow now, and I can't really exercise, so we'll just take it as it comes...or goes, so to speak!

Have a great day!

A week of many adventures!

Bet 'cha thought I gave up again huh? Fooled you this time! I have just been crazy busy. Wait til I tell you what I have been so busy with...
Well, Sunday was my Mommy's 80th Birthday! We had a nice birthday get together at my Sister's...flowers, balloon bouquets gifts and cards and of course there was cake and ice cream! Mom was thrilled with all the attention. It was especially nice as last week Mom's Doctor confirmed our suspicions of Alzheimer's. We have known or suspected for quite sometime but, now the memory problems etc. have been obvious for Mom too, so this time she was not trying to hide it.
Getting back to her birthday party though...we were all enjoying ourselves and I got up to go help in the kitchen with dinner and my dumb corduroy pants always rise up when I am sitting so as I was walking towards the kitchen I stopped and tried to shake the pant leg down. Well, this seemed like a smart thing to do, at the time! It doesn't seem too smart to me now looking back at it. I had not noticed that my foot was in very close proximity to the very immovable kitchen cabinet divider. Well I now realize what happens to your toes and foot when said foot launches itself into immovable object with a sharp corner. It's called a fractured toe that travels along the joint into the foot. The Doctor has warned me that he may have to go in and pin it, but at any rate it will require 6-8 weeks to heal, even without surgery. Oh yeah! And it is my right foot. Little hard to drive with a honkin' boot on your foot. Do you know how hard it is to constantly have to put this thing on and off again all day? Not to mention how tired you get making the five mile trek to the other side of the building to the bathroom. Get the feeling that I am kinda whiney about this?
I did have a very small piece of cake and some ice cream. I deserved it right? Actually, I really did not want it, but I knew Mom would be hurt if I did not eat some, and it was a little piece. The best part is...I did not go into the "I've blown it now so I can eat anything for the rest of the day mode" Went right back to eating right, in fact I ate very light that evening. Hooray for me!
This week has been a struggle food wise but I am doing it, even tho the last couple of days I have had to depend on my husband for dinner. A person could starve this way. He ended up making a very nice meal last night tho, and had a salad and chili from Wendy's tonight. Works for me!
Ya know I lost all that water the first week and then I think I gained a couple back...guess it is all settling in now. I suspect I will lose some more before our six week weigh in. My body is trying to hold onto it now tho. Sometimes I think there is a mutiny going on in there!

Exercise for Older Adults:

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room
at each side. With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight
out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a
full minute, and then relax.
Each day, you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit
longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks. Then try
50-lb potato sacks and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a
100-lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a
full minute. (I'm at this level)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each of the sacks

It's been one week! Hey...I passed the two post test! And then there is the scale!!! I knew I was doing good as I have been keeping track this week to monitor my fluid loss because of the pseudo tumor. But once I reached 11 pounds, which, by the way, is exactly 4, 397,562 trips to the bathroom, then I was somehow afraid that I would gain 5 or 6 of it back by this morning! My body likes to play tricks on me! And sometimes I think that I talk myself right into it! Do you ever do that? I need to re-program my little voice and what it is saying to me!
Well (drum roll please!) I have lost 14 pounds! That is the most I have ever lost in one week! I must have been storing enough fluid to drown in!

Oh Man! Now I saw the water and I gotta pee! See ya!

Challenge Number One!

Today was a big "Family Day" for my husband's work. It was nicely catered by a local BBQ place. You know bbq beef, turkey and shredded pork to go into a big fat hamburger bun with all the trimmings, and sausage too, potato salad, cole slaw and macaroni salad and baked beans, & corn bread with butter and honey. Then of course there was chips and dips, cotton candy, and lots of other candy and pop. But ya know what? I must be committed cuz I had some fresh veggies, a little sausage, some beans and lots of water. That's one of the good things about Prism, you don't crave stuff. I guess cuz your body is satisfied. (Not even the big yummy cookies.) We had a great time tho! We took our seven year old granddaughters. They had a blast. They really had alot for the kids!

We will see how I do tomorrow at church with the cookies so close at hand! That has always been one of my hardest things. They have yummy sugar free ones but they still have white flour in them so they are a no no! Is everybody a cookie monster out there, or is it just me? It's like the perfect food. There is always one that is just the way you like it! Yum!
Seems I only get two posts out in any particular quest to eat healthy and control my "out of control" eating and pop drinking! Guess that's cuz I keep starting with great intentions but fall short before a week or two. Go figure!
Well, I decided that I really needed to change this self destructive path that I am on. I decided to go back on Prism, the strictest program that I am familiar with. I lost 33 pounds on it last time. But all significant loss was within the first two phases. The first two phases take 3 months. That would take me to the 27th of November. I told my friend at work (who had also been on the program when we had classes at our church) that I was going back on. She wanted to join me as she has also started gaining...uck! So the day after labor Day we started. We have been keeping each other going all week.
I will not weigh again after this Tuesday until the end of the first phase. I have been weighing every day this week as I am trying to keep track of my fluid loss for my pseudo tumor cerebri. Since Tuesday I have lost 10 pounds. I really have been storing the extra fluid. Must have been floating... I know I was not feeling well.
So wish me luck and tune in to see if I make it past 2 posts this time!

The Almost Perfect Diet

I was in Walmart buying a large bag of Purina for my dog Lola - and
was in line to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog... DUH!

I was feeling a bit crabby so on impulse, I told her no, I was
starting The Purina Diet again, although I probably shouldn't because
I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before
I woke in an intensive care unit with tubes coming out of most of my
orifices and IV's in both arms.

Her eyes about bugged out of her head. I went on and on with the
bogus diet story and she was totally buying it. I told her that it was an
easy, inexpensive diet and that the way it works is to load your pockets or purse
with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry.
The package said the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it
once again.

I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by now
enthralled with my story, particularly a tall guy behind her.

Horrified, she asked if something in the dog food had poisoned me and
was that why I ended up in the hospital?

I said no.....I'd been sitting in the street licking my butt when a car
hit me.

I thought the tall guy was going to have to be carried out the door

This was sent to me by my co-worker who started back on Prism with me this Monday! She is a great accountability partner! Cool thing is that everypne has been bringing in tomatoes lately! Woo hoo!
